Guidelines, Expectations, and Specs

General Guidelines

The Adventurer’s Grimoire will be accepting page artists, merch artists, and writers. We will also be interested in accepting poets onto the team if there is enough interest in the contribution applications. The contributor spread is tentatively 1 cover artist, 25-28 page/comic artists, 5-6 merch artists, and 7 fic writers (or 5-6 fic writers and 2-4 poets), including guests, but this is subject to change depending on contributor applications.Contributor applications will be open from 15th May to 15th June. All applicants, regardless of role, are expected to provide three (3) samples that best represent the work they would like to create for the zine, as well as a portfolio with additional work that can include any or all of the three samples.Please provide content warnings when applicable to samples and ensure that all links are set to everyone can view so that moderators can review your application. You can ensure a link is viewable by trying to open it in incognito mode. Mods are highly unlikely to contact applicants about broken links or other related issues.All applicants will receive a copy of their application through email once they have submitted, and are permitted to edit their application. Please note that moderators may not consider edits if they are made more than a week after the original form is submitted, or after applications close. If you wish to make changes more than a week after, please submit a new application and only your latest application will be considered.

Page/Comic Artist Guidelines

Please submit:
- Three (3) individual samples that best represent the work you would like to create for the zine.
- A portfolio containing between five (5) to seven (7) pieces containing additional work that you would like the moderator team to consider. The portfolio may contain any or all of your samples.
- All provided samples must be completed pieces in a similar art style and quality that you would produce for the zine.
- At least one sample must include a rendered, complex background.
- At least one (1) of your three (3) main samples must feature Genshin Impact characters.
- As the project is SFW-only, all three (3) of your main samples must be SFW. You may include NSFW in your portfolio however this must be specified in the content warnings if this is the case.
- All works may not include AI-created or AI-assisted content.

Merch Artist Guidelines

Please submit:
- Three (3) individual samples that best represent the work you would like to create for the zine. These can also be photos of physical merch or mockups.
- A portfolio containing between five (5) to seven (7) pieces containing additional work that you would like the moderator team to consider. The portfolio may contain any or all of your samples.
- All provided samples must be completed pieces in a similar art style and quality that you would produce for the zine.
- At least one (1) sample must include a complex background if you are interested in making a print/postcard or wallpaper. Backgrounds are not required for artists who only wish to create items like charms, stickers, and icons.
- Examples of the type of merch you are wanting to create are preferred but not required.
- At least one (1) sample must feature Genshin Impact characters.
- All works may not include AI-created or AI-assisted content.

Writer/Poet Guidelines

Please submit:
- Links to three (3) samples of what you believe are your best works.
- A portfolio of at least two (2) other works will be required (this may be a link to a works page on AO3)
- At least one sample must be related to Genshin Impact.
- All works submitted in the three (3) samples should be between 1,500 to 2,500 words. Completed one-shots are preferred, but excerpts are accepted as long as at least one (1) sample is a complete, stand-alone work.
- If you are interested in applying as a poet, at least one (1) sample must be a completed poem. This piece of work should be 500 to 1,500 words instead of the above specifications.
- Your linked samples may be included as part of the portfolio.
- All works may not include AI-created or AI-assisted content.
- All samples and portfolio pieces are to be submitted as individual Google Docs/AO3/ellipsus links. Twitter threadfics, Tumblr post fics, Instagram post fics, or fics posted on any other social media platform will not be considered.
- You will be judged based on your mastery of English, ability to bring characters and scenes to life, and ability to capture your audience’s attention.
- Please ensure that anyone with the link can access your samples and portfolio. Failure to do so may affect your application.

Contributor Expectations

All contributors to the zine must be age 18 by the contributor joining period. This is not because of content in the zine, but more so due to legalities when it comes to communication and compensation. Anyone who is at or above the minimum age is free to apply to this fanzine, regardless of prior experience or social media presence - though we require you to have at least one Social Media account where we can reach out to you just in case.Contributors must have Discord or be willing to create one, as the primary avenue of communication will be through a Discord server – there will be no NSFW-locked areas in the zine, so you do not need to worry about age-verification through Discord. Within the server, contributors are expected to treat everyone else working on the project with respect. Additionally, if it is found that a contributor has produced or promoted content that encourages hateful, harmful, or otherwise exclusionary sentiments against real-life marginalised communities, they will be removed from the zine - this is the only content outside of the zine we will be checking. Anything else you create outside of the zine is your own business and will not affect your application.All check-ins and final submissions are expected to be submitted in a timely manner. However, we understand that life happens and there may be reasons why someone may not be able to finish a piece on time. If a contributor cannot complete a check in or submission on time, we request that they communicate this with a mod so they can be granted an extension.All contributors must create new, original works for the zine. Plagiarism, use of AI, and other forms of theft will not be tolerated.While contributors’ work is their own, we request that they do not post any part of their work during the creation period. During pre-orders, we will provide previews for contributors to post on social media. The full work may be posted after leftover sales begin.Page/Comic Artists will be expected to create one (1) fully rendered piece, either single page, spread, 1-page comic, or 2-page comic.Merch Artists will be assigned two (2) pieces of physical merchandise and one (1) piece of digital merchandise to design based on the given specifications. A maximum of one (1) design per Merch Artist may be an Early Bird/Stretch Goal item.Writers will be expected to create one (1) piece around 2k - 2.5k words in length, with a maximum of 250 words leeway either way.Poets, if there is enough interest among applicants, will be required to create one (1) poem around 500 - 1k words in length, with a maximum of 100 words leeway either way.

Zine Specs

The zine will be A5 and perfect-bound with approximately 120-150 pages.Our merch list will include the following (based on IC result requests, and mod discussions on viability; subject to change based on applicant interest):Physical:

We also had dice frequently suggested, however after looking further into this, it would not be particularly cost effective or viable to do these. We did however look into dice trays and these would be both cost effective and viable, so we added these to our merch list!Digital:

What is a zine?
A zine is a collection of creative works centred around a specific theme. This zine will feature writing, art, and merch focused on the characters of Genshin Impact in a TTRPG style. It will be imagining them in an unspecified TTRPG world, as wizards, bards, fighters, and everything in between!What kind of content will be allowed?
This zine may contain game spoilers, depending on what our contributors choose to create. This main zine will remain completely SFW with canon-typical levels of violence allowed. The zine will be an SFW project only, but will allow implied, non-explicit shipping in the main zine.So are ships allowed?
Yes, though it should not be the main focus. The zine is not focused on shipping but it may be included as implied/background content by contributors if they so desire.Is this zine physical or digital?
We will be aiming to produce an SFW physical zine and merch.Is this zine for profit or charity?
The Adventurer’s Grimoire will be a for-charity. Our goal is to compensate contributors with a full bundle of the zine, including shipping at no extra cost if possible, and at minimum, all contributors will be guaranteed a free digital copy of the zine. All remaining profits will be donated to a charity that will be determined before pre-orders by both mods and contributors.How many contributors are you looking to accept?
We are looking to accept the following numbers of contributors excluding guests:
- 22-25 page/comic artists
- 7 writers (or 5-6 writers and 2-4 poets)
- 4-5 merch artists
- Up to 4 spot artists
This is subject to change based on the result of our contributor applications.

Can I apply for multiple roles?
You may apply for multiple contributor roles. However, contributors will only be accepted for one role.What is the age requirement for this zine?
All contributors must be 18+ at the time of application results.How will contributors be compensated?
Contributors are guaranteed to receive a digital copy of the zine at minimum. Depending on profit, we also aim to provide free full bundles of the physical zine and any merch to all contributors. Should we be unable to cover the full cost, we will discount the cost to purchase a bundle as much as possible.
Any additional profit will be going to a charity tbd by mods and contributors before pre-ordersDo I need any previous zine experience?
Not at all! All applications will be considered regardless of experience.What is a check-in?
Check-ins are stages throughout the creation period where contributors are asked to show progress of their pieces. These are crucial for moderators to ensure contributors are on schedule as well as adhering to creation and formatting guidelines. Check-ins are also a way for contributors to request feedback and critique if needed.
Details of what is expected for each check-in will be detailed in our Discord server. The dates for each check-in are provided on our schedule.Do I need a Discord account?
Yes, a Discord account is required if you are accepted into the zine. All communications will be done through the zine’s server.Can I share WIPs of zine content outside of the zine?
No, we ask that you do not share or stream anything related to your piece outside of the server. Your piece and its contents should remain private until you are given the go ahead by the mod team.
Sharing progress within the zine’s server is perfectly fine and encouraged!Will I be allowed to post/sell my finished piece?
All contributors will be allowed to post and sell their finished pieces once the project is complete.Where are you shipping from and what countries will you be shipping to?
We will be shipping from the USA. We will release a list of countries we will not be able to ship to closer to the time of PO's.Will orders be tracked?
When placing an order on our storefront, you will have the option to select either tracked or untracked shipping, depending on which method suits you best.
Please note that if you select untracked shipping, your shipping costs will be reduced, however if the package goes missing in transit, we will not be able to make a claim with the courier and therefore we will not be able to offer a replacement or refund for the lost items.Will shipping costs include taxes/custom's fees?
No, shipping costs will not include any customs fees or taxes for shipment into the recipient’s country. This will be the responsibility of the buyer.
